Everyone is getting the Oscar fever and this year’s Oscars are going to be held on February 10^th. No matter if you are a person who especially enjoys the Oscar-nominated or winning movies, you know that those movies are on a different level.

For people who want to put a little prestige in their viewing experience, Netflix offers a lot of Oscar movies in their database.

It can be a bit difficult to know where to start from since there are thousands of movies available on this streaming service and there are definitely too many Oscar movies to choose from.

Philadelphia

The filmmaker Demme is definitely one of the greatest filmmakers in history. After his Oscar-winning thriller Silence of the Lambs, he pulled off the Oscar-winning drama, Philadelphia.

The movie was released in 1993 and it features a senior associate (Tom Hanks) at a large firm who suspects he was fired because of his sexuality and AIDS diagnosis. The only lawyer (Denzel Washington) willing to represent him is a homophobic one.

This is still one of the best and most effective courtroom dramas, that shows the audience the world of panic and disrespect when it comes to homophobia and AIDS.

Hanks won his first Oscar for his work in the film, followed by his second Oscar a year later in Forrest Gump.

The Departed

The 2006 crime drama is the movie that finally got Scorsese an Oscar. After his serious epics like Gangs of New York and The Aviator, the director admitted that he wanted to make a commercial movie, choosing to remake Hong Kong’s thriller Infernal Affairs.

That resulted in a really entertaining crime drama that was packed with amazing performance. This is a movie that you have probably seen before, but if you somehow missed it, it definitely deserves to be on your list!

Inglourious Basterds

Cast: Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Mélanie Laurent, Daniel Brül, Diane Kruger, Eli Roth, Michael Fassbender, Til Schweiger, B.J. Novak, and Mike Myers

This 2010 WWII epic movie was a surprisingly formidable contender in the Oscar race. The movie won the SAG Best Ensemble award and people wondered if it could take the Best Picture award.

The biggest shocker was that Tarantino lost to The Hurt Locker in the Best Original Screenplay race. The same movie took the Picture and Director award.

Even though this movie has only one Oscar, it is definitely one of the best Tarantino movies.

In short, this movie is a story of a man who falls in love with his operating system. Even though people laughed when they read the plotline, they definitely weren’t laughing when they saw the movie.

This deeply felt gorgeous, heartbreaking story of love, loneliness, and what it means to be a human on the planet Earth is one of the best movies of the decade.

According to The Vore, this movie is pretty much perfect, from top to bottom and, chances are, you will find yourself in a puddle of tears of how beautiful this film actually is.

Inception

After making one of the most critically acclaimed superhero movies in history, the director Nolan decided to test himself and Hollywood to see if original ideas are still welcomed by the audience.

The 2010 sci-fi action earned $828.3 million at the box office and got multiple Oscar nominations. The audience, as well as the critics, loved the movie and a new classic was born.

Adam Chitwood added, “Inception is a visually stunning affair that also boasts one of the most exciting endings in recent memory”. This movie features a professional thief (DiCaprio) that’s haunted by his past who takes on one last job. The heist takes place inside people’s minds and Leo is tasked with either planting or stealing information in someone’s head.

The movie scored Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

The Theory of Everything

The Stephen Hawking biopic is a movie that’s focused on Hawking’s early years at Cambridge and how he struggled to work through his illness.

This stirring, emotional and ultimately lovely movie is an incredible masterpiece that you have to see the first chance you get.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
